A Top Wedding Trend: A Minimalist Wedding

Brandon and I always knew we wanted an outdoorsy wedding with minimal decor. I'm kind of a minimalist and didn't want to do a ton of decorating and wanted to shy away from the traditional to-do's. We decided on a minimalist theme and style. Everything we chose was very intentional, and very us.

A top trend that has recently broken into the wedding industry is the minimalist approach. With so many traditional wedding to-do's and decor choices, it is no wonder minimalism is being seen in a lot of weddings. There is always splendor in simplicity too!

If you are in the midst of choosing your theme and want something simple, check out these top tips (from an already married couple) on how you can incorporate the minimalist theme into your wedding:

Try to cut the Bridal/Groom Tribe

Consider keeping your wedding party to a minimum. One or two siblings or very-best friends is all you need on your big day. The less is more approach will keep things simple, and you'll have fewer logistics to worry about on the big day.

We decided to have our wedding party consist of only one person each, our siblings. My brother was my choice, and my husband chose his brother too! This kept a lot of things simple, and stress-free! We didn't have the traditional bachelor/bachelorette parties either - kept costs down.

Choose a Raw Space

For the venue, we wanted a very untraditional space. We were searching for a raw space or a "blank canvas" that we could easily turn into a ceremony and reception all in one. We ended up choosing our unfinished historical property in Halifax, North Carolina. The space was currently undergoing renovations and was extremely rustic. I had a vision that we could make it work, regardless of the state of the property (picture an almost condemned property). I wanted the backdrop to be our 300-year-old historic house. The backyard made for a very intimate ceremony space and reception.

Simplify your Ceremony

Our ceremony was quick, maybe 30 minutes in length. We wanted to jump right into the reception. Our goal was to have an intimate backyard party, and that's exactly what we got. We didn't want our guests to sit through a long ceremony.

Use Flowers from the Garden

If flowers and/or foliage are considered one of your must-haves, then choosing an understated bloom would be your best choice to keep things simple and cost-effective. Avoid using expensive flowers and use the natural flowers growing in your garden (or neighbors garden) to frame your ceremony. We ended up using a mix of wildflowers that we found the day before and a few that we purchased in bulk at Trader Joe's. It made for a very unique flower mix!
