The Parksdale House in Rich Square, North Carolina: A Restoration Journey

A year ago, we embarked on an exciting and meaningful journey to preserve one of Rich Square, North Carolina's historic treasures: The Parksdale House. This iconic property, rich with history and charm, had fallen into disrepair, but we saw the potential to restore it to its former glory. Now, as we prepare to begin work on one of the most crucial parts of the restoration—the roof—we want to share our progress, the challenges ahead, and how you can be a part of preserving this piece of local history.

A Historic Gem in Need of Care

The Parksdale House, built over a century ago, holds a special place in the heart of Rich Square. Its architecture and historical significance make it a key part of our town’s legacy. However, like many old homes, time has taken its toll, and the property has experienced years of neglect. Our team (my husband and myself) has spent countless hours assessing the building, carefully planning its restoration, and ensuring that the work done will not only preserve its character but also respect its original craftsmanship.

The next major step in the restoration process is the roof. As any homeowner or preservationist knows, a sturdy roof is essential for protecting the building and ensuring that the rest of the restoration can proceed without further damage. We are preparing to begin the work on the roof, and while it is a monumental task, it is one that will make a significant impact in the long run.

The Road Ahead

Restoring a historic home is no small feat—it’s a labor of love that takes time, dedication, and, of course, funding. We are fully committed to this project, but we can’t do it alone. The restoration of The Parksdale House will require significant resources, including skilled labor, quality materials, and specialized expertise in historic preservation. We are working closely with architects, contractors, and preservation specialists to ensure every step of the process is done correctly.

However, the restoration process will take time, and we will need help along the way. We understand that not everyone has the time or expertise to join us on-site, but there are other ways to get involved and make a difference. That’s where you come in.
