Bringing back the brick at the John Brown House in Halifax, North Carolina

I wish we had more historical data and photographs of the John Brown House in Halifax, North Carolina. With this information, it would be so much easier to put this puzzle back together. Of course, we are doing the best we can with the information that we have!

It was an amazing discovery when we first found the original brick walkway in our yard, buried underneath layers of grass and dirt. I believe our plumber had just connected the water and sewer line to the house and uncovered it during the excavating process.

We hired a brick mason to bring back the brick walkway and connect the front of the property to the backside. He used a mixture of salvaged bricks from the house, the original brick walkway, and brand-new bricks.

Check out the completed brick walkway project in the images below:

Historic homes can be whimsical and beautiful but can also be a handful (especially if it has brick chimneys). The next project was our unsightly chimneys, which didn't help our home's curb appeal. We also had crumbling mortar joints and broken bricks. Our mason did an excellent job bringing the original chimneys back to life. The only thing left to install are the chimney caps!
